Important information regarding your travel, neccesities, and trip

Climate:
The trophy-hunting season in South Africa is all year round, but the recommended hunting period is from March till October. Moderate temperatures prevail with mornings (40 degrees F) warming up to 75 or 80 degrees F, with cool evenings. Little or no chance of rain.

Firearms:
Minimum calibre for dangerous game – 375 H&H or bigger. Plains game hunt – choice of calibre but not smaller than 270. You are allowed 3 rifles into South Africa and 11 pounds of ammunition total. 40 to 60 bullets per rifle will be sufficient. Only one firearm per caliber is allowed per person and no person under 21 years may bring a firearm into South Africa under their own name. A temporary import permit from the South African Police Service is required to bring your rifle into South Africa. Amanita Safaris will apply for the permit on your behalf. Please contact Amanita Safaris to obtain all the relevant forms to apply for the temporary import permit. You will need an US customs form 4457 for the application. To obtain a Customs Declaration Form 4457, you need to take your rifles to your nearest US Customs Office to be completed and make sure it is stamped

Insurance:

Although every precaution will be taken to ensure your safety and good health during the Safari, it is recommended that you provide for your own travel insurance, covering personal accident, medical expenses and baggage. Amanita Safaris or its agents do not accept any liability for injury, damage or loss of property. Global Rescue is the premier medical evacuation service for traveling hunters. If you have to be hospitalized, Global Rescue have the ability to transport a member back to their home hospital of choice. Global Rescue’s in-house staff can travel to your bedside to help improve your care and coordinate your evacuation.

Clothing:
We recommend three changes of lightweight outfits for hunting. Drab olive green or natural bush colours. Camouflage clothing is permitted. A warm jacket for the cool mornings and evenings. Comfortable hunting shoes and a wide brimmed hat for sun protection. A daily laundry service is provided.

Booking Arrangements:
Minimum duration of Safari is 7 days for antelope species. A booking will be considered binding upon receipt of $1000 deposit. The balance of the hunt is settled after the hunt in cash or please contact Amanita Safaris for other arrangements prior to the hunt.

Passports:
All visitors to South Africa are required to carry a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the intended length of stay. There should be sufficient blank pages (a minimum of 2) for entry stamps upon arrival. Visas are not required for citizens from USA. Visitors can stay for a maximum of 90 days. You may be requested to show a return ticket. 

Transport:
You are met and transported from Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to the hunting camp. A fully equipped hunting vehicle will be used during the hunt. Charter flights are available at additional costs.

Health Precautions:

No medical shots are needed for South Africa. Our hunting areas in South Africa are Malaria free areas. Malaria medication is required if you are traveling to the Kruger National Park for a photographic safari or hunting Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Safari Check list

Take note: Most African countries have 220-240 Volt power. Do not try and operate 110 Volt apparatus on this power. 110 Volt transformers are available or take a converter with dual 110/240 volts

Clothing:

  • Warm jacket for evenings and mornings.
  • 3 sets hunting clothes (Drab olive green or natural bush colors. Camouflage optional.)
  • 1 pr hiking boots (comfortable.)
  • 1 pr Tennis shoes.
  • 6 pr socks.
  • Underwear.
  • 2 sweatshirts or sweaters.
  • 1 pr jeans or casual pants.
  • 2 cotton shirts.
  • 1 Hat with brim.
  • 1 pr light gloves (leather)
  • 1 pr sweatpants (optional)

Toiletries:

  • Comb, toothbrush & toothpaste
  • Shave cream, razor
  • Deodorant, shampoo, Q-tips
